I don't know where the muses take me, I only know that I like it!

Sherlock Fic - The Republic of Heaven, Part One
colourful, hills
Title: The Republic of Heaven
Rating: Maybe PG-13?  At least at the moment...
Disclaimer: I do not own these characters, and am making no profit from their use, more's the pity.
Warnings: Eventual slash, Sherlock/John.
Summary: Another HDM fic, but I just couldn't resist.  Born to a witch and a human, people know Sherlock will be unusual from the start.  John Watson, on the other hand, seems perfectly ordinary, except for his dæmon...

I don't know must I read HDM first? I tried to read it before but did not thought it interesting. But I watch a movie. Is it enough?

You should be all right without having read the books - at least, I hope so.

oooooh, loving this so far! i love john's daemon, haha. fits him perfectly, i think. i like that you also included the armored bears in this -- most of the HDM AU's i've seen tend to ignore them.

definitely looking forward to more :)

yeh a new story!! But it seems a little bit abstruse for me...
will try to read it slowly...

I've been reading your stories for a while. (thanks to the Chinese translation version of reaction)
Reaction is really a excellent story!!:D

I'm very intrigued. I don't know His Dark Materials at all, but it doesn't seem to matter, which is great :)
I'm probably going to just read on through until the last chapter you up for now because I'm a lurker at heart ;)
Actually, I almost don't want to leave this comment here, because (unless something has changed between the time I opened the page and now) you currently have 69 comments and that amuses me :D

Appropriate icon, ahoy!

And I'm glad you felt you understood the story - my goal was for people to be able to read and enjoy it even if they don't know the HDM world.

I do love long stories, but I'm knackered at the moment so lengthy compliments will have to be added in later. Sorry. But I'd like to say that I love the glimpses into John & Sherlock's lives growing up and right at the end of this chapter John getting along with so many different sentient beings that are normally given a bit of a wide berth so to speak. He sees beyond the surface. And I admire that.

I hope you and your beta don't mind but I detected one item that you mind wish to look at at your leisure.
1.In addition to running to British government to the extent that Sherlock was sure it would collapse were his brother ever assassinated ***I think you meant to type "running the British government"***

Thanks for spotting that!

And originally, I intended to have the boys meet at the end of the first chapter, with only a smidgen of backstory for each...but you can see how that worked out :D

Sorry for the late comment. I'm mostly a lurker in the Sherlock fandom, but there's one thing about this chapter that's always nagged at the back of mind, and since I don't see it addressed in any of the comments here, I figured I might as well ask: With the plausible age difference between the characters, and the fact that you specified that Raniel settled early and Amarisa settled late, was it your intention to imply that they settled at roughly the same time? I'm not sure if it really means anything, but it would be interesting to know.

And, of course, I can't leave a comment without letting you know that I absolutely adore this fic, and I've been keeping up with it since you posted the second chapter, even though I usually stay away from WIPs. Your world building is wonderful, and I especially love how you've incorporated social and political elements from HDM into the Sherlock verse, what with how the different races interact and Mycroft's various official positions. I don't know much about HDM, but I find the fusion to be very interesting. =)

Thanks! And it was not my intention to imply they settled at the same time, it was just another way of highlighting the way their chilhood's were different, and yet strangely similar. Both their dæmons settled at unusual age, but for Sherlock it was early while for John it was late.

Though I do like the idea of Amarisa and Raniel settling at exactly the same time! I have no idea what (if anything) that means, but it gives Sherlock/John a very destiny/soulmates vibe, doesn't it?

Sherlock wanted to say, “Don't leave us.”
He wanted to say, “Come back to us.”
He even wanted to say, “I love you.”
But in the end, he said nothing.
you broke my heart with these lines...
poor, poor lovely boy...

(I can not wait to read the rest!!)
Jenn, who was born in the city of witches, Salem MA ...

I'll eventually be compiling the podfic into podbook (audiobook) format for themusecalliope, and I was wondering if I might use your lovely banner as the cover for the 'book when the time comes.

Feel free! Just be sure to give credit to the maker, birddi.

My heart went "ka-THUMP" with sadness when I reached the end of this fic, but now I am full of glee because I see there are eleven parts!

This is excellent work. All of your work is excellent work. :) I should stop doing pesky things like going to my job so I can read fanfiction full time!!

Thanks! And I know what you mean - sometimes I just want to write fanfiction all the time, rather than going to work...

The Republic of Heaven

I've barely begun part one of The Republic of Heaven, only about two inches on my scroll bar, but had to stop reading just long enough to say how smitten I am with your story. I rarely read WIPs until the author says, "Complete!" (was burned once too often), but I'm making an exception in your case because of your world-building and the enticing flow of narration.

Okay, just for you to know I already deleted this comment a thousand of times because I always think I'm not saying enough! This is BLOODY FANTASTIC! Really!
The idea of Sherlock's daemon being a polecat is awesome!
Thank you for sharing this with us! :)

Oh, I am intrigued! Haven't read HDM in some years so I appreciate the slight info dump a lot. Can't wait to get started on the next chapter. Love the idea of Sherlock BBC with dæmons, it works pretty well, IMO.

This is way late, but--

Tiny grammar nitpick. I don't know if "panserbjørne" is meant to be Norwegian or Danish, but I assume Norwegian since they are from Svalbard.

Singular form would be panserbjørn (without the 'e') and plural panserbjørner unless you want to English-ify it, then it would be panserbjørns, though the latter sounds odd to my ears as a native speaker.

If, in the future, you have any questions regarding Norwegian/Scandinavian grammar, language and history, do not hesitate to contact me, if it's for a fic or otherwise: god.aften.venn@gmail.com - I'd be happy to help

I love this as much as I love Oreos. WOW!

Do you post anywhere that I could subscribe to updates, or only here on LJ?

Oh my goodness this is amazing and it's only the first chapter!! D:
